Left undefined, "doing well financially" quietly gets borrowed from whoever's loudest nearby, a neighbor's car, a relative's house, a stranger's post, instead of being decided on purpose.
In Practice
Two people earning the same salary can end up living completely different financial lives; one chasing a borrowed definition of "doing well," the other living by one they actually wrote down and meant.
Generic Example
Two people training for the same race can define "winning" completely differently, one against the clock, one against everyone else on the course, and only one of those definitions is actually theirs to control.
