Ambition & Success
Ambition isn't satisfaction. The goalposts keep moving.
- Ambition
- Satisfaction
- Sets a bigger goal at once
- Needs a pause to count it
Ambition and satisfaction aren't the same axis; it's possible to keep succeeding by every external measure and still not feel successful, because the goalposts moved every time one was reached.
In Practice
Hitting a savings goal and immediately setting a bigger one, without ever pausing to actually register having hit the first one, means the achievement never gets to count for anything.
Generic Example
Finishing one item on a to-do list and immediately adding two more, without a moment's acknowledgment, means the list never actually gets shorter in any way that feels real.
Ask yourself
If my income doubled tomorrow, would I actually feel successful; or would I just reset what "successful" means?
