Financial Boundaries

A boundary is one decision.Said out loud again.

The first no
The same reasoning
Feels like the relationship is at risk
Gives the same answer

A financial boundary is really the same funding decision restated once, instead of relitigated every single time it's asked for again; saying no this time isn't a new verdict on the relationship, it's the same reasoning as last time, said out loud.

General education, not personal financial, medical, or legal advice; a real decision like this is worth a licensed professional's specific input.

In Practice

The first time a parent says no to funding an adult child's lifestyle choice, it can feel like the relationship itself is at risk; but if the underlying financial reasoning (what this money is needed for elsewhere) hasn't changed, the answer shouldn't either.

Generic Example

The first time a favor is declined, it can feel like a friendship is ending; usually it's just the friendship discovering it has an actual boundary.

Ask yourself

Is my reasoning about this money actually different this time, or am I being asked to relitigate the same decision?
