Giving that's actually generous and giving that's actually about being seen as generous can involve the identical rupee amount; the difference only shows up in whether it changes when no one's watching.
In Practice
Donating ₹5,000 quietly, with no announcement, and donating the same ₹5,000 with a public post about it, can come from very different places; and only one of them survives the question "would I still do this if no one knew?"

Helping a stranger carry something heavy feels different depending on whether you'd have done it with no one else around to notice.
