Financial Resilience
One loss is one data point.Change one thing, not everything.
- A specific lesson
- A blanket retreat
- Was the position too large?
- Stop investing altogether
A financial setback should usually change one specific thing, how you size the next similar bet, not everything about whether you take risk at all; treating a loss as full-portfolio proof rather than one data point is often what actually erodes wealth over a lifetime.
Losing ₹40,000 in a stock that didn't work out should prompt a specific question, was the position too large, was the thesis wrong, was the exit plan missing, not a blanket decision to stop investing; the second response protects far more money over a lifetime than the first.
One bad flight can make someone swear off flying forever, or make them figure out it was one unlucky airline, one unlucky day; the second version still gets to travel.
Did this loss teach me something specific about my own decision, or did it just make me afraid of the next one?
